Ashtray Cup Holder
1987 Porsche 924 (924S)
Description
I drive a 1987 Porsche 924S. I have two problems with the car: first, the ashtray (where I keep things like coins) is annoying to use and a bit of an eyesore and second, there are no cup holders. inb4 "It's a driver's car it doesn't need cup holders!!!11!one1" I like going through drive-throughs, I wanted a cup holder. This project attempts to remedy both problems. It comes in two parts: the drop-in replacement "plug" for the OEM ashtray and the cup holder attachment. The cup holder slides into the ashtray plug when you need/want its functionality, and slides out to be stored in the door pocket when it's not needed. The cup holder hole is sized to nicely fit the small-sized drink cups at a few of my favorite fast food joints. You may have to adjust the hole diameter in FreeCAD to make it work for you. I know it works on the 1987 Porsche 924S, but I can't confirm its functionality on cars I don't own. I think it would work on all of the 924/944 family, but I'm not totally sure. Attached are the two components you need, plus the FreeCAD files for both the standard parts and a few options. 924ashtraypocket.fcstd is the plug without cup holding functionality, and 924ashtrayblank.fcstd is a blank plug for you to modify or use however you want.
